St Peter's Church is an outlying daughter church in the parish of Wheathampstead, serving the community of Gustard Wood.  The building is of neo-gothic design and built of Bath stone and knapped flints.

It was opened in 1910 after a public appeal for funds.  The original proposal was for a mission room constructed from corrugated steel until Laura Pearce, wife of a former vicar of Ayot St Lawrence, responded, “For an iron church I will give you nothing; but make it a permanent church and I will give you a thousand pounds.”
